HealthEdge Eliminates Need for ICD-10 Conversion for Healthcare Payors

Next-generation HealthRules product suite provides immediate interoperability between the ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding standards

Burlington, MA, May 18, 2010—HealthEdge, provider of the only modern, enterprise-class software platform for healthcare payors, today announced that its HealthRules product suite is being used by leading payors across the country to enable the immediate adoption of ICD-10 diagnosis and procedure codes, well in advance of the cutover deadline and without any significant expenditure of time or effort. The HealthRules platform, unlike claim processing, benefit administration, and business intelligence offerings from other vendors, does not require payors to endure time consuming and expensive conversions before being able to accept ICD-10 transactions from their providers. As a result, HealthEdge customers are ready to begin processing ICD-10 claims immediately, and they will be able to avoid what many predict will be the most costly remediation effort since HIPAA and Y2K.

"Unlike other systems that will require time consuming analysis and review of existing configuration, custom code, and data interfaces, complex data conversion and migration, and then costly reimplementation of all configuration, custom code, and interfaces," said Ray Desrochers, chief operating officer of HealthEdge, "HealthRules already has the ability to simultaneously and seamlessly process both ICD-9 and ICD-10 transactions. We believe that payors who wish to truly compete in the new healthcare marketplace will need more than just great software. They will also need an agile, next-generation business partner that is able to respond to market needs in real-time.  With that in mind, we have already enabled each of our customers to take advantage of the various enhancements associated with the new ICD-10 standard based upon their timeline, and their specific needs."

Nancy Coburn, chief operating officer of Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island, agrees. "Those that can quickly adapt to changes like ICD-10 and the new requirements that are coming out of the recently adopted healthcare reform legislation will have a significant competitive advantage in the market," said Coburn. "Here at Neighborhood, we pride ourselves on our ability to quickly address market changes and seamlessly continue to deliver a level of service to our members and providers that is second to none. Our implementation of the HealthRules products will ensure that we are able to rapidly respond to whatever future changes may come our way."

"Helping organizations like Neighborhood maintain a competitive advantage is one of the key goals of our company," said Desrochers. "Unlike other solutions that will require customers to invest massive amounts of time and money completing complex, error-prone conversions or will require add-on modules in order to support emerging standards like ICD-10, the HealthRules products were built, from the ground up, with these next-generation needs in mind. As a result, HealthEdge will continue to lead the market in offering support for new and emerging standards as they are announced, and we will continue to find creative ways to minimize the impact of these new standards on our customers."
